BASEBALL fans couldn’t wait to finally see first overall pick Paul Skenes in action.
Well, pretty much all of them.
Skenes threw his first MLB pitches for the Pittsburgh Pirates last night in front of delighted girlfriend Olivia Dunne.
The 21-year-old’s debut came with a lot of excitement due to the power couple’s huge profile.
But MLB writer and statistician Bill James, 74, clearly had better things to do.
“Let me know if Skenes is anything special,” James tweeted.
“I don’t have enough brain cells to worry about prospects who are supposed to be really good.”
Fans didn’t like the scene and revealed their feelings.
“If I ever become so unhappy in life, please take me there,” one of them replied.
“well you’re right about brain cells,” added another.
“The man who paved the way to make baseball unwatchable has thoughts about the future,” posted a third in reference to the statistics-driven Moneyball approach that James made popular.
“Lol whatever dude,” wrote a fourth.
Skenes made his long-awaited debut against the Chicago Cubs.
The Pirates led 6-1 when he was pulled in the fifth inning, but two of his runners ended up scoring.
Skenes allowed three runs and two walks with seven strikeouts.
It wasn’t perfect, but there was enough to show why fans were so eager to see him in action.
During the game, Dunne was interviewed by Sportsnet Pittsburgh and talked about how she felt.
DUNNE AND SKENES’ SUMMER OF LOVE

Olivia Dunne and Paul Skenes managed to keep their relationship a secret before finally going public last summer.
The two met at LSU, but it’s unclear when they started dating.
Rumors of a romance began when Dunne watched LSU win the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, last summer.
And Dunne posted selfies from Fort Myers, Fla., where Skenes was playing.
He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates and began his professional career playing in the minor leagues in the Sunshine State.
The final clue came when Dunne posed in a Pirates cap before the pair finally went public.
“I was a little nervous at first, but I channeled that into excitement,” said the 21-year-old.
“I just have more confidence in him than ever.
“I have so many incredible memories with him, but I know how hard he worked for this moment.
“Seriously, there’s nothing that can top this, I’m so proud.”
Skenes reached 100 mph 27 times and even managed 102 once in the first round.
