The New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies teamed up for one of the most comical moments of the MLB season on Tuesday.

Mets fans haven’t had much to smile about so far in the 2024 season, but the team provided a funny moment against the Phillies.

With Brandon Marsh on base for the Phillies, Mets pitcher Sean Reid-Foley threw a throw that reached the first base line.

Bryson Stott advanced toward home plate, but first baseman Pete Alonso kicked the ball to try to catch him.

With Stott caught in a drop, the Mets continued to throw the ball back and forth to get him out.

At one point, third baseman Brett Baty dropped the ball before returning it to Alonso.

Then Alonso dropped the ball, but managed to recover and throw it back to third base.

Somehow, after all the commotion, the Mets managed to get Stott out of the situation.

Mets announcer Gary Cohen couldn’t believe what he was seeing and delivered a great line.

“What a circus!” Cohen shouted.

“Somehow, in the most ridiculous summary you’ve ever seen, the Mets got their way out.”

Cohen began singing circus music as he watched the replay, which showed the ball falling repeatedly.

Baseball fans were in fits of laughter at the comedic skit and shared it on social media.

“Most ridiculous summary ever and the Mets go together like PB&J,” said one fan.

“Mets almost Metsed, but didn’t become full Mets,” said another fan.

“This Phillies/Mets series has brought back the chaotic magic of the past,” said a third fan.

“3-2-5-2-3. The Pensacola Putout,” said a fourth fan.

The strange play is almost a summary of the Mets’ start to the season.

The team is 19-22 after losing two games to the Phillies and two of three to the Braves in their last series.

The team is going through a difficult time, having lost seven of the last ten games and their calendar won’t be much easier from now on.
