Saturday’s contest between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs ended controversially with a play at the plate.
A close pitching duel ensued between the Pirates and Cubs, with the score tied 0-0 in the bottom of the ninth.

With Pirates closer David Bednar and Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger at second base, Chicago had a good chance to score.
Cubs slugger Christopher Morel took advantage of the opportunity to hit a pitch to center field for a base hit that sent Bellinger racing home.
Center fielder Michael A. Taylor threw a strike to home plate that beat Bellinger to the bag and catcher Joey Bart was quick to make the tag.
It appeared that Bart hit Bellinger before crossing the plate, but the ball came out as he transferred the ball from his glove to his hand and Bellinger was ruled safe.
The Pirates quickly challenged the safe call, but it was upheld after review.
Upon analysis, it appeared that Bellinger should have been out, as Bart hit him several times before crossing the plate.
Furthermore, when Bart took the ball out of his glove to show it up, it was knocked out by Bellinger’s hand.
Pirates fans were furious with the decision and vented their anger on social media.
“The solution is here – these are two obvious analyzes that MLB missed in favor of the Cubs this year,” said one fan.
“What’s the point of a replay system when we still get bad calls,” said another fan.
“Apparently it’s now legal to take the ball out of the catcher’s hand,” said a third fan.
“Horrible, horrible call. WOW. Even after the replay made things worse,” said a fourth fan.
“They need to change what allows a call to be overturned. It’s a problem,” said a fifth fan.
With the win, the Cubs move to 26-21 on the season and occupy the second Wild Card spot in the National League.
The Pirates fell to 21-26 after the loss and moved to within two games of the last Wild Card spot.
However, Pittsburgh won the first two games of the series and will have a chance to win the fourth on Sunday.
