Mahomes, who is used to being a perennial playoff contender with the Chiefs, is clearly excited to see another team in Kansas City competing for the postseason.
The Chiefs quarterback went on a tirade about X, reposting five tweets about the Royals to show his fandom on Monday.
This wasn’t an isolated incident either, Mahomes continually showed his support for the Royals throughout the season.
Kansas City has one of the best young cores in baseball and has already built an impressive +60 run differential.
This is due to the fact that their pitching staff has a 3.42 ERA, a top ten mark in MLB.
The Royals have two of the best starters in baseball so far, with Seth Lugo and Brady Singer dominating the opposition.
Lugo is pitching to a 1.79 ERA with 58 strikeouts. He has seven wins and one loss so far this year.
Singer has a 2.70 ERA and has thrown 61 strikeouts. He has four wins and two losses so far this season.
The hitters are also helping carry the Royals’ weight at the top of the league.
They are one of the best base-stealing teams in baseball, collecting 48 sacks so far this year, the sixth-best mark in MLB.
Bobby Witt Jr, the team’s shortstop, has 15 of his bases stolen while hitting at an extremely efficient rate.
He has five home runs and 25 RBI to complement a .295 batting average.
Alongside him, catcher Salvador Perez is enjoying one of the best seasons of his veteran career.
The 34-year-old is batting .341 with nine home runs and 38 RBI to start the year.
Five Major MLB Rule Changes in 2024
1. The pitch clock is reduced from 20 to 18 seconds with runners on base. It will remain at 15 seconds with the bases empty.
2. When a pitching change is made, the inning clock will reset to 2:00 instead of 2:15 as it did last year.
3. Teams will only be able to visit four mounds per game in 2024, compared to five last season.
4. Fielders and fielders who block bases will be cited for obstruction by the umpires.
5. The runners’ lane from home plate to first base has been widened to include the dirt between the grass and the white line.
