KIKE Hernandez produced one of the strangest moments of the MLB season while on the microphone.

The Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman was talking to AppleTV+ commentators during their 2-1 win over the New York Yankees.

Hernandez, 32, spoke about the Dodgers’ strong team chemistry with former MLB pitcher Dontrelle Willis.

“After this play,” Hernandez said, before moving to his right to field a Gleyber Torres grounder.

Unfortunately, he was unable to catch the ball and allowed the Yankees slugger to reach first base.

“Kike Hernandez making a mistake while on the mic is making for really weird TV,” one fan posted on X.

“Kike Hernandez will probably never use the mic again,” added another while sharing a clip of the incident.

“The period after a player makes a mistake while his microphone is on and the commentators don’t know what to say could be the strangest minute in human history,” said a third.

“Maybe a little, but I think I let the ball consume me. It was a weird jump,” Hernandez said when asked if being interviewed distracted him.

“No, because we are getting paid,” he added when asked if he would refuse to use the microphone again. “I like money.”

In the regular season, the MLB collective bargaining agreement calls for a player to receive a $10,000 scholarship for wearing a microphone for at least one inning.

That rises to $15,000 in the postseason.

Baseball fans can indulge in 2-foot, 2,000-calorie fish and chips, samosas or hot dogs — but not in America

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he didn’t know Hernandez was on the microphone.

“What was the previous question, before making that mistake?” Hernandez asked after about a minute.

“I don’t want to ask again, because I don’t want you to kick the ball again, to be honest,” Willis replied.

“I’ll take that E for you, big dog.”

The Dodgers won despite Hernandez’s error to bring their record to 40-25.

Five Major MLB Rule Changes in 2024

1. The pitch clock is reduced from 20 to 18 seconds with runners on base. It will remain at 15 seconds with the bases empty.

2. When a pitching change is made, the inning clock will reset to 2:00 instead of 2:15 as happened last year.

3. Teams will only be able to visit four mounds per game in 2024, compared to five last season.

4. Fielders and fielders who block bases will be cited for obstruction by the umpires.

5. The runners’ lane from home plate to first base has been widened to include the dirt between the grass and the white line.

They face the Yankees again tonight, with New York sweating over Juan Soto after a midgame shutout.

Manager Aaron Boone said Soto is “day to day” after missing the series opener yesterday.

Tests on star Soto’s left forearm and elbow revealed no structural damage.

“That’s what I was looking for,” Soto said after the loss to the Dodgers.

“I was just trying to see what was actually going on in my elbow, and we were thinking a little bit about what it would feel like and what it would look like.

“And thank God it went our way.”
