NEW York Mets owner Steve Cohen is facing major backlash from fans after claiming the food in London is better.
Mets owner Cohen was in London to watch his team face the Philadelphia Phillies twice in the MLB World Tour series over the weekend.
Cohen said he comes to London quite often for work and feels qualified to judge the two cities’ respective food merits.
“I think the food here is fantastic,” Cohen said.
“I think it’s better than New York.”
As you can imagine, fans quickly weighed in on these comments on X, the site formerly known as Twitter.
And many of them are not very happy with the fact that London is placed over New York.
“This is ridiculous,” said one fan.
“He must be talking about billionaire-level food,” wrote another person.
“The food is so good the best he got was a sausage burger on white bread haha,” said a third person.
“I spent a lot of time in both cities and the food in New York is so much better,” a fourth person wrote.
To be fair, not everyone disagreed with his comments.
“London is just like New York, an international crossroads full of people from every culture on the planet. Of course the food is great in London,” said one fan.
Large crowds were at the Olympic Stadium in east London for the MLB games between the Mets and Phillies.
This was the third MLB series held in London.
The first of these occurred when the New York Yankees faced the Boston Red Sox in 2019.
This was followed by last year’s games between the Chicago Cubs and the St Louis Cardinals.
I think the food here is fantastic. I think it’s better than New York.

The Phillies beat the New York Mets 7-2 in their opening game on Saturday.
The game was decided by an explosive six-run fourth inning for the Phillies.
This resulted in the withdrawal of Mets starting pitcher Sean Manaea.
It looked like the Mets might have suffered another loss in Sunday’s second game when they lost 3-0.
But they produced a thrilling comeback to win 6-5.
