SNY announcer Gary Cohen was furious during the third inning of last night’s game between the Miami Marlins and New York Mets.

With two outs in the third inning, Marlins third baseman Emmanuel Rivera hit a ground ball.

He threw the ball to Marlins second baseman Otto Lopez for the third out, but Lopez didn’t realize how many outs there were and began throwing the ball to first base.

The ball sailed over first baseman Jake Burger’s glove, almost flying into the stands, sending Cohen over the edge.

“The inning is over. No one on the field seems to know how many there are. I mean, come on. 5-4 strength ends the inning. You can kill someone that way,” Cohen said.

Fans rushed to the video to share his thoughts on the play and Cohen’s reaction.

“Gary was absolutely right!!” wrote one fan.

“Wow, take a chill pill, Gary. Are you drinking decaf?” commented another fan.

“This happens all the time, almost daily, there is confusion in the number of balls and strikes, strikeouts in innings. Bad transmission from Cohen,” wrote a third fan.

“Saying you’re going to kill someone like this is a bit of a stretch,” said a fourth fan.

“Overly dramatic Gary,” commented one dissatisfied fan.

Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez was on base as the chaos ensued and ended the night 1-4 with a single to right field.

Despite the mess in the third inning, the Mets ended up winning 10-4.

The Mets will finish their series with the Marlins tonight as each team recorded a win a piece.

It hasn’t been a successful season this year for the Mets, as the team is currently fourth in the NL East standings with a 29-37 record.

After the Mets wrap up their series with the Marlins, they will host the Padres in three games starting Friday, June 14.

Before the Marlins series, the Mets faced the Phillies in the MLB World Tour: London Series.

MLB rule changes

Below are some of the MLB rule changes for the 2024 season.

  • The corridor track was widened
  • The pitch clock was reduced from 20 to 18 seconds with runners on base
  • Four visits to the mountain permitted

The Mets fell to the Phillies 7-2 in the first game, but bounced back with a thrilling 6-5 victory in the second game.

The London series has been running for three years and is expected to continue moving forward.

The Marlins haven’t been any better, as they sit at the bottom of the NL East standings with a 23-44 record.

They have won just one of their last nine games and will be looking to avoid another series defeat tonight.

The Marlins will travel to Washington D.C. to play the Nationals in a three-game series starting tomorrow.
