ESPN’s Father’s Day baseball broadcast got weird during an interview with Boston Red Sox star Triston Casas.
Casas took the microphone to talk about his childhood with the broadcast team, but ended up telling a strange story.
Casas spared no details as he told a story about his father from his Little League days.
In the story, Casas revealed that his father was arrested in one of his games.
He claimed he was around six or seven years old at the time of the story.
“I was so young that I really don’t know what’s going on right now,” Casas said.
He explained that he went out for a play and started crying on the way back to the dugout.
His father didn’t like the way he reacted to the play.
“My father, being the father that he is, trying to teach me the lessons he taught in his own special way, entered the dugout, grabbed me by the shirt, dragged me to the line, and Looney Tunes style kicked me out onto the field ,” said Casas.
“One of my best friends… his mother called my father’s child services and had him arrested in the field.
“I see my father drive away in the police car, get arrested and spend the night in prison.”
Although it’s a crazy story, Casas called it his father’s “favorite memory.”
“That day, my father taught me a super valuable lesson that not many people know about,” said Casas.
“That I had a responsibility to my teammates, a responsibility to the coaches that showed up that day, all the fans that showed up to the Little League game that day to go out there and do my best no matter how I was feeling. at the bank or whatever I was going through that day.
“I still apply that to this day. Sometimes I get to the dugout and I feel like crying and I want to cry, but that’s not how baseball is.”
The story was a roundabout way of explaining that his father’s lessons from decades ago still apply to his game in the major leagues.
Although Casas’ father was a bit harsh, Casas admires him.
“I love my dad to death,” Casas said.
“I wouldn’t have this opportunity without him.”
Casas hasn’t been able to follow his father’s mindset lately as he’s dealing with torn cartilage in his ribs.
He hopes to be back in the team in July after suffering the injury on April 20.
