MLB star JD Martinez returned to action after a freak foot injury.

The 36-year-old New York Mets designated hitter missed Tuesday’s game with the Washington Nationals because of a sore ankle.

Martinez was a scratch for the game as the Mets clawed their way to a 7-2 victory.

He was kept out of the game after wearing a new pair of cleats in Monday’s series opener.

Martinez revealed that a mix-up resulted in him not receiving an order for his usual picks.

And the new pair of game day sneakers wreaked havoc on his ankle joint.

“To be honest, I haven’t received my new shipment of boots yet and I had to try a new one. [Monday]”, said the veteran DH.

“I felt great and I woke up today and my ankle was sore.”

Martinez was forced to sit out Tuesday’s game after experiencing severe pain in the batting cage.

He revealed that the new boots – which he ordered from Amazon – had an extra bounce compared to the pair he usually wears on match days.

“They have a payroll of over $300 million (just for the players; who knows what the full annual budget is). How do they not have an endless supply of basic equipment like cleats, gloves, sticks, etc?!” gasped a fan on X.

“New boots every 3 or 4 games are WILD,” said a second.

“I’ve been there, JD! I feel your pain. I hope it goes away quickly,” sympathized the third.

Martinez has been instrumental in the Mets’ turnaround in fortunes over the past month since signing a one-year, $12 million contract.

He appeared in 56 games, hitting .277 along with 13 doubles, 10 home runs and 38 RBIs.

The 36-year-old veteran returned to the team after ankle problems on Wednesday.

Martinez ran, but the Mets lost 7-5 when their bullpen imploded late in the game.

Some Mets fans have attributed the team’s recent resurgence to the McDonald’s mascot, Grimace, who threw out the ceremonial first pitch against the Marlins on June 12.

Before Grimace’s appearance, the Orange and Blue had been having a miserable season.

After the mascot’s appearance, they experienced a change in fortunes, going from 16 to 8 in June to turn their campaign around.

They are now 42-42 on the season and just 1.5 games back of a wild card spot.

The Mets and Nationals play Game 4 of their series on Thursday.

Washington can split the series with a win, with first pitch at 11:05 a.m. Eastern.
