And the team was forced to place him on the 60-day injured list just hours later.

Brewer, 31, will be unavailable for at least two months following the crazy incident.

The six-year Major League Baseball veteran has made 16 relief appearances for the Cubs this season.

But the relief shown on Saturday left him angry and frustrated.

Brewer entered the game against the Los Angeles Angels in place of starter Kyle Hendricks in the third inning.

The Cubs were down 2-0 at the time, and Brewer managed just two outs.

He was lifted and charged with three runs on two hits, two walks and one hit.

The Angels won the game 7-0.

Meanwhile, Brewer returned to the dugout and punched the wall.

“My intention was not to break my hand,” Brewer told reporters on Sunday.

“Emotions sometimes get the better of us.”

His manager Craig Counsell added: “When these things happen, you know you screwed up.

“That was the conversation. Then there are consequences for the mistakes you make.

“It’s an unfortunate mistake, and he let his emotions get the best of him.

“It’s not who he is, but it was a mistake he made.”

Brewer returned to MLB after a stint with the Hanshin Tigers last year.

He has also played for the San Diego Padres, Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees since entering the league in 2018.

The highlight of his career so far was winning the Japan Series last year with Hanshin.
