ESPN TV viewers rally around David Cone after missing Sunday Night Baseball live broadcast and ‘hope to be back’

ESPN baseball announcer David Cone made a remote appearance on the network while sick.

Cone shared before the broadcast began that he would not appear in his regular role on Sunday Night Baseball.

“Unfortunately, I am unwell and will not be able to join Karl [Ravech],Edward [Perez] and Buster [Olney] in the booth tonight,” he wrote.

“I’ll be watching and commenting here during the game. I hope to be back soon.”

Cone, however, did some work, calling for a review round with his team.

“David Cone has COVID, which is why he’s not in the booth with Karl Ravech and Eduardo Perez tonight,” said MLB.com reporter Ian Browne.

“He’s on the phone this shift. The ESPN trio on Sunday night is excellent.”

Fans wished the ESPN analyst good luck as he recovered from the illness.

“Sorry to hear that, David. Prayers for a speedy recovery,” said one fan.

“Booth is going to be shit without you, David! I hope you feel better soon!” another fan said.

“The best voice in the booth is on IL. Feel better!” a third fan said.

“Get well soon, Coney! Feel better,” said a fourth fan.

Cone is a former pitcher for the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, so Sunday night’s matchup between the two teams was special for him.

He didn’t miss much, as the Red Sox came away with a 3-0 victory in what was mostly a pitchers’ duel.

Kutter Crawford went seven innings for Boston and allowed just four hits.

On the opposite side, Luis Gil went 6.2 innings for the Yankees and allowed just one earned run.

The main difference in the game was Rafael Devers, who hit two solo home runs.

Sunday Night Baseball will not air in its regular time slot this week as MLB enters the All Star break.

The league gives teams Sunday night off to allow players to travel to the event.

This year’s All Star Game takes place in Arlington, Texas.
