ST Louis Cardinals star Matt Carpenter has insisted the team’s recent celebrations have nothing to do with Donald Trump or any political issue.
In recent games, Cardinals players like Lars Nootbaar and Alec Burleson have kept one hand in the air and the other fisted as they round the bases.
There were also examples of players putting their hands over their ears.
There has been a lot of speculation that this was in support of Trump.
Following Trump’s assassination attempt this month, the former president was immediately seen putting his hand to his ear.
Shortly after, he raised his right arm with his fist while shouting the word “fight” repeatedly.
Carpenter clearly felt the need to explain the matter further.
And he explained that the players’ actions have nothing to do with Trump.
Instead, he said the celebrations emulate former disc jockey Burleson.
Burleson was a rapper in college, known by the pseudonym “Biscuit.”
“It’s an inside joke with (Burleson),” Carpenter said.
“It’s definitely not a political statement. I think that’s a little off here.”
As you can imagine, fans were quick to respond.
Posting on X, the site formerly known as Twitter, it soon became clear that not everyone is buying this latest explanation.
“Strange coincidence, it only started after the shooting, even though Burleson has been dropping bombs all year,” said one fan.
“After watching the videos, I don’t believe this excuse. Disappointed in them,” someone else posted.

“Waiting for the video so this happens sooner. Or else, it’s a 1 in a million coincidence,” said a third fan.
“I can’t be the only one who’s still unsure about all of this,” said a fourth fan.
It is perhaps not surprising that there has been an attempt to downplay any hidden meaning behind the celebrations.
Tensions are extremely high in the United States following recent events.
And the political scene took another dramatic turn on Sunday when President Biden announced he would not run in the 2024 US elections.
Trump will now face another opponent, who will be revealed in the coming days and weeks.
