Johnson announced in a statement that he will not work as an MLB host on TBS for the remainder of the 2023 season as he deals with a personal matter.

“I would like to thank the leadership of the TNT Sports for allowing me free time to take care of a family subject during the baseball season,” he said on Monday.

“I’m looking forward to getting back into the studio for the start of NBA season.”

MLB Network’s Greg Amsinger will take over in Johnson’s absence.

He will work as the TNT Sports studio host for MLB coverage.

Amsinger will replace Johnson for the remainder of TBS’ regular season and postseason games.

He will join the studio analysts Pedro Martinez, Curtis Granderson and Jimmy Rollins.

It appears Johnson could host Inside the NBA when the regular season begins in late October, as the MLB season nears its end.

Inside the NBA future It’s unclear why Warner Bros. Discovery appears unlikely to retain its NBA media rights.

Johnson is best known for his work on Inside the NBA alongside Kenny Smith, Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal.

Since 2020, he has hosted all TBS studio coverage for the network’s weekly national broadcasts.

Johnson was the network’s lead announcer for the 2010 MLB season.

His announcement comes as MLB on TBS will broadcast its first regular season game following last week’s All-Star break.

Amsinger will be tasked with hosting the network’s studio coverage of Tuesday’s New York Yankees-Mets game in the Bronx.

O Subway The series clash will be called by Brian Anderson and Ron Darling.

“As fans know, I love to have fun talking about baseball and no group laughs more than the MLB studio team on Tuesdays,” Amsinger said.

“I’m really looking forward to what I believe will be a Tuesday night baseball party with Curtis, Jimmy and Pedro!”

Amsinger has hosted MLB Network since its inception in 2009.

He appears on the network’s programming, including MLB Tonight.
