Buck and longtime broadcaster Chip Caray teamed up to call the Cardinals’ opening series matchup against the defending World Series Texas Rangers.

It was the first baseball game Buck has called since the 2021 season.

The Buck-Caray duo was a throwback to the 1950s and ’60s when Joe’s father, Jack, and Chip’s grandfather, Harry, called games for the Cardinals Radio Network.

Joe began broadcasting Cardinals games on TV and the Cardinals Radio Network from 1991 to 2007.

“It’s good to sit here with you,” Buck told Caray during the broadcast before Monday’s Cardinals game. game on Bally Sports Midwest.

MLB fans were impressed with Buck’s appearance on the broadcast.

“It’s surreal to have him back on an MLB broadcast,” one commented.

“I need him back in the World Series,” wrote another.

“Welcome back,” added a third.

Buck entered Monday’s assignment with a history of calling Rangers-Cardinals games.

He commented on the 2011 World Series, when the Cardinals beat the Rangers in seven games.

Buck scored one of the most iconic moments in MLB history when the Cardinals’ David Freese hit a home run in the 11th inning against Texas, forcing Game 7.

The Cardinals planned to have Buck and Caray commentate the game in late May, but it rained, which set Monday’s assignment.

In 2021, he left Fox Sports to sign with ESPN and call Monday Night Soccer games alongside his longtime partner, Troy Aikman.

Buck served as television World Series play-by-play announcer for 25 years.

He worked alongside his iconic father Jack while calling Cardinals games during his early broadcasting days.

Joe was grateful that Caray agreed to do the broadcast with him.

“Broadcasters get really territorial and Chip was the opposite of that,” Buck told Total Information AM on Monday.

“He opened the doors.

“My wife, my little children, everyone was well received and he doesn’t have to be like that.”

Caray joined the Cardinals broadcast team in 2023 after being the play-by-play voice of the Atlanta Braves for 18 years.
