The upgrades to the Spectrum Center aim to bring the Hornets closer to their goal of becoming “the NBA’s premier franchise,” per team website.

“This building is truly special to every person who walks through its doors,” said Donna Julian, Hornets executive vice president and general manager of the Spectrum Center, in an affirmation.

“And I’m very excited about the future that Re!magine Spectrum Center will deliver.”

Charlotte promises to elevate “nearly every corner” of the 19,000 seats.

The renovations will expand gathering spaces, improve traffic flow within the arena and increase visibility of the bowl to improve the overall fan experience.

As part of the project, 2,500 seats will be added to lower-level sections, bringing fans closer to the action on the court.

Spectrum Center’s Uptown Concourse – which consists of The Nest’s fan section and the Dr. Pepper Pavilion behind it – will also be completely redesigned.

The 200-level area, dedicated to the Hornets’ most passionate followers, will receive lighting, signage and flooring upgrades.

We will also see improvements in concession experiences thanks to impactful technology, creating simpler interactions.

Spectrum Center will enhance food and beverage offerings throughout the arena, including additional to-go markets.

‘This means a lot,’ says Michael Jordan as NBA legend opens new career venture after selling Charlotte Hornets

It will also provide an elevated experience in premium spaces.

More than 1,000 lower-level seats are expected to have access to club amenities upon completion of renovations.

Additionally, the reimagined Suite Level will offer five different suite options, including an all-inclusive stateroom at a higher price.

“We are committed to this investment in world-class sports and entertainment facilities,” said Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles.

“We know this is the way to generate economic growth, create new jobs and really put ourselves on the map while talking about ourselves as a premier destination for major events and attractions.”

The Hornets entered a new era last year with Gabe Plotking and Rick Schnall purchasing a majority stake in Michael Jordan’s team.

The NBA legend sold his shares for around $3 billion.

“We may be tearing things down here as of today, but brick by brick we plan to turn the Hornets into an elite organization,” Plotkin said of the Spectrum Center renovations.

“We look forward to the future of our team, our arena and our downtown.”

Although we have only been here for a short time with [HSE Co-Chairman and Governor] Rick [Schnall]myself and the ownership group, there’s one thing we quickly learned: Charlotte is an incredible city, full of incredible people, and we are truly blessed to lead this franchise.

“We also learned the important role the Spectrum Center has played in this community, bringing people together and creating lifelong memories.”

The Hornets finished the 2023-24 season with a 21-61 record.

Charlotte hasn’t reached the NBA playoffs since 2015-16.
