NBA star Luka Dončić, nicknamed Luka Magic, is famously known for his basketball skills with the Dallas Mavericks.

Luka’s parents, Mirjam and Sasa, are supportive of their son’s career, and here’s everything we know about them.

Who are Luka Dončić’s parents?

Luka Dončić is the son of Mirjam Poterbin and Sasa Dončić.

Choosing to follow in his father’s footsteps, Sasa was also a professional basketball player growing up.

Sasa’s career lasted from 1993 to 2010. He played mainly in Slovenia; however, he had a few spells in France and Serbia.

After his career in sports, Sasa went on to coach basketball before becoming sports director of the Slovenian Basketball Federation in January 2024.

As for Luka’s mother, Mirjam spent her youth as a model and dancer, having competed for the title of Miss Slovenia in 1993.

However, she is famous for presenting the Slovenian version of Wheel of Fortune.

Following her career as a presenter, Mirjam opened her own beauty salon.

Although Mirjam and Sasa divorced in 2008, they have been extremely supportive of their son and his NBA career.

Speaking with Euroleague Basketball Table TalkMirjam recalled that Luka always wanted to play basketball as a child.

“Since the first day, [when] Luka started walking, he was crazy about basketball,” she said.

“Even when he had a birthday, as a present he would always say: ‘I want a ball or tennis shoes’. And that.”

In 2023, Sasa talked about how she appreciates spending time with her son any time she can in the midst of their busy schedules.

The two revealed that they welcomed a daughter, Gabriela, on December 1, 2023.

In a joint Instagram publishthe pair posted a photo of the newborn with the caption: “Gabriela !”

According to Sports Illustrated After a game, Luka said that Gabriela’s birth was the “happiest day of my life”.

He later said at a press conference: “I’m much happier now.

“There are some nights when I don’t sleep much, but Ana does most of the work. This is truly life-changing for the better, and there is nothing happier than that, and because of that, I am the happiest man in the world.”

Gabriela usually appears with her mother at Luka’s games.

Luka and Anamaria met when the couple were just 12 years old, but they only started dating in 2016.

On July 7, 2023, Luka Dončić made an Instagram post announcing their engagement with the caption that read: ” 7.7″.

Who is Luka Doncic?

Luka Dončić is a Slovenian basketball player born on February 28, 1999.

He began his basketball career playing for Union Olimpjia before moving to Madrid to play for Real Madrid’s youth academy.

He led his team to victory in the 2018 Euroleague and was named the league’s Rising Star.

That same year, Luka took his career to the United States when he declared for the 2018 NBA Draft and was selected by the Atlanta Hawks.

However, he was quickly traded to the Dallas Mavericks, where he now plays.

Since joining the Mavericks, Luka has been named an NBA All-Star and All-NBA First Team for five consecutive seasons since 2020.
