The 2024 NBA Draft schedule has been updated to avoid a scheduling conflict with the presidential debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump on June 27.

This year’s draft will follow a new format, taking place over two days rather than one night.

ESPN will broadcast the first round live from Barclays Center on Wednesday, June 26 at 8 pm ET.

The draft will move to Disney Network’s Seaport Studios in New York City the following day, with the second round initially scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET.

However, the NBA announced that the event is scheduled to resume at 4 p.m. ET.

The change allows ESPN and the league to move the draft from the same time as the first of the two Biden-Trump debates, which will be presented on CNN.

The two presidential candidates will face off on Thursday, June 27th at 9pm ET.

The NBA split the two rounds to give teams more time to make decisions on their second-round picks.

But the change was clearly made with the expectation that drafting would take place in the evening on both days.

“Two nights of primetime coverage will also enhance the viewing experience for our fans and further showcase the draftees,” said Executive Vice President and Head of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars. said in January.

Day 2 of the 2024 NBA Draft could attract as much attention as the first round because of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James’ son, Bronny.

Bronny James, 19, remained in the draft, forgoing college eligibility.

The former University of Southern California guard’s decision came after strong pre-draft showings that reportedly boosted his stock.

However, his future remains one of the biggest mysteries of the offseason.

That’s because there has long been speculation that Bronny could reach a deal with LeBron, who could decline his $51.4 million player option and hit free agency this summer.

The possibility makes it difficult to predict the 6-foot-5 guard’s recruiting position.

Bronny reportedly received invitations to training camps from more than 10 teams, but rejected most of them.

It is said that he only said yes to the Lakers and the Phoenix Suns.

Additionally, his agent Rich Paul – who also represents LeBron – has made it clear that James Jr. will not sign a two-year contract.

“Bronny [draft] the reach is wide,” Paul said of Bronny.

“He is a very good prospect who has a lot of room to grow. Only one team is needed.

“I don’t care where this team is – it could be No. 1 or 58 – [but] I care about the plan, the development.

“The team strategy, the opportunity and the financial commitment.”
