FOLLOWING in the footsteps of their NBA Finals opponent, the Dallas Mavericks had an NFL legend narrate their Finals promotional video.
The Boston Celtics enlisted the help of New England Patriots legend Tom Brady for their video, so it would make sense for the Mavericks to get help from a Dallas Cowboys player.
However, to the surprise of fans, the Mavericks went in a different direction.
The video is narrated by Patrick Mahomes, quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Although he is a Dallas sports superfan, Mahomes has no other connection to the team.
“The Finals. There’s only one thing standing in the way now, and it’s not the opponent,” Mahomes said in the video.
“It’s the willingness to sacrifice everything, because the biggest competitor is you.
“If you don’t believe in winning this title, you shouldn’t be here. You know what it takes to get here.
“Every moment of your life has led you to this, and if you want to hold that trophy, it will cost a lot more.”
While some fans were upset that the Mavericks weren’t using a Cowboys player, most were actually excited to hear from Mahomes.
“A champion knows a champion,” said one fan.
“Using Mahomes to narrate instead of a Cowboys player, great teamwork,” said another fan.
“The perfect narrator, @PatrickMahomes, championship caliber motivator,” said a third fan.
“Why don’t they use Dak,” said a fourth fan.
“I still don’t understand the Mahomes Mavs connection,” said a fifth fan.
Brady gave a similar speech in the NBA Finals for the Celtics, exciting Boston players and fans.

“Really? You want Boston? Believe me, it’s a bad idea,” Brady said.
“O [Heat] culture? History. Cleveland? Made for. And Indy? He finished.
“But us? We’re still here. Right now, you’re going to want anyone but Boston.”
The Celtics titled their video Be Careful What You Wish For, to counter the number of teams that said “we want Boston” during the playoffs.
