Clark, 22 years old, brought a legion of fans to women’s football and filled the arenas.

But she is likely to miss a trip to Paris this summer, according to Atlético.

“Talk about the WNBA getting an Instant L,” one fan posted on X.

“It’s like the WNBA wants to stay poor,” added another.

“It’s a new team from the USA and is already full of vet guards, but I say Clark will be there next time,” replied a third.

“This woman has the biggest enemies in the history of women’s sport,” commented a fourth.

Clark was one of 14 players called up to Team USA’s training camp in April, but did not attend due to Iowagoes to the NCAA championship game.

“You always want to grow up and be on the Olympic team, but lucky for me, I have the opportunity to possibly not do that because I want to be in the Final Four playing basketball with my team,” Clark said at the time.

“But if not, that’s where I’ll be. The people that are in this lineup are people that I idolize and that I idolized growing up.

“Just to receive a camp invite is something you should be proud of, celebrate and enjoy.”

‘It’s because of me too,’ says Angel Reese as Chicago Sky star counters Caitlin Clark’s WNBA narrative

However, Cheryl Reeve has reportedly favored experience in her lineup selection as Team USA looks to defend its gold in Paris.

A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart are among the veteran stars who will be named.

Clark criticized media coverage of the WNBA following her controversial incident with Chennedy Carter.

The Fever star spoke for the first time in detail about Carter’s cheap shot against her during the game against the Chicago Sky, which drew national attention.

“Sometimes it’s horrible how much the conversation is outside of basketball and not the product on the floor,” Clark said.

“And the incredible players that are on the court and how good they are for their teams and how great this season has been for women’s basketball.”

Much of the conversation about Clark has centered on race and gender rather than basketball.

Jemele Hill of the Atlantic he wrote: “The WNBA’s new popularity has triggered a boom in comments from men who have no idea what they’re talking about.”

Clark is not active on social media, but still pays attention to what is being said about her and the league.

“I still have my TV on at home and I watch sports, you’re still aware of it and you still see it,” she added.

“Other than that, my focus is basketball.

“But, yes, I try to block it out. I don’t have social networks on my cell phone, I don’t go on them, I don’t watch them much.

“But I really don’t think it’s that different from when I was in college.

“Everyone is going to have their opinion, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and that’s it.”
