CAITLIN Clarke’s Olympics snub may work out better in the long term, according to former ESPN anchor Jemele Hill.
Team USA’s omission of the WNBA star was met with widespread uproar.
But Clark herself made the decision gracefully.
And Hill, 48, explained how missing the flight to Paris is a positive in a insightful series of tweets about the furore.
“Honestly, Caitlin Clark not being on this year’s Olympics team is actually a good thing – FOR HER,” she wrote.
“In the space of weeks, she went from playing in college to becoming a professional and having a busy schedule.
“A break of several weeks is probably not the worst thing in the world.
“She will eventually make an Olympic team.”
The WNBA will be on hiatus from July 18 to August 14 and the break could definitely help Clark, who has started to heat up after a slow start, late in the season.
“I think what’s going to happen is they’re going to get her more international experience so she can be on the right path,” Hill added.
“The common thread among all the players selected is that they have considerable international experience. Caitlin does not.”
Clark, 22, broke his silence on the rejection today.
“I was a kid who grew up watching the Olympics, it will be fun to watch,” said the Indiana Fever star.
“Honestly, there is no disappointment. I think it just gives you something to work towards.
“It’s a dream, I hope one day I can be there. I think it’s a little more motivation.
“You remember that and I hope when four years come around, I can be there.
“They called me and let me know before everything came out, which was very respectful of them and I appreciated that.

“They did the same to every girl who made the team or every girl who didn’t make the team.
“There are a lot of players in the Olympic group, so it wasn’t like I was the only one they had to call.
“They had to make some calls.”
“Someone was raised right. She will be rewarded,” commented a fan.
“After watching this interview, I was reminded of the power of grace under pressure,” added another. “A classic example of being a class act.”
