FIRST Take analyst Shannon Sharpe is not happy with the Los Angeles Lakers coaching offer to Dan Hurley.

The Lakers reportedly offered Hurley a six-year, $70 million contract to coach the team, which he turned down.

According to Sharpe, Hurley likely turned down the deal because there wasn’t enough money attached.

“It wasn’t the timing, it was the money,” Sharpe said.

“If you have a job, for another job to make you leave, you’re going to have to make me an offer I can’t refuse.

“This was a very unrefusable offer.”

Sharpe said being the sixth-highest-paid coach wasn’t a good enough offer for Hurley, and the money should have been more.

“Are you going to make him the sixth highest paid?” said Sharpe.

“He has a job, how do I get his wife to say ‘Honey, we can’t refuse. This is life-changing money.’

“I’ll tell you what, how about six years, $80 million. How about six years, $90 million.

“I know Steve Kerr is turning 17 and a half, but the Warriors didn’t want him to leave, so it was easy for him to stay.”

Sharpe cited the fact that the Lakers tried to convince a college coach to leave the NCAA 20 years ago and only offered him slightly less than Hurley’s offer.

“If you want someone to leave their current job, you need to make them an offer they can’t refuse,” Sharpe said.

“You’re going to make the man an offer of $11.5 million? You offered Coach K $8 million in 2004. So 20 years later, you’re only getting $3 million?”

Sharpe’s biggest concern is that the Lakers are trying to be too active and need to let their coach have free agency.

“Go ahead, give someone the job, let them pick their team and pay them,” Sharpe said.

“You’re thinking, ‘We’re the Lakers,’ it’s the same way Jerry Jones thinks, ‘These are the Cowboys.’

“This was the right decision for Dan Hurley considering what the Lakers offered.”

NBA fans echoed Sharpe’s sentiment, saying Hurley was outplayed by the Lakers.

“He actually had the ball low,” said one fan.

“I honestly didn’t see him leaving UConn because of this situation,” said another fan.

“It’s all about the money for these guys,” said a third fan.
