FORMER LSU star Angel Reese had a strong prediction for herself and the rest of the players heading into the 2024 WNBA Draft.
The 21-year-old didn’t stop there during the interview, as she also revealed a massive statement about women as a whole in basketball.
Reese and superstar Caitlin Clark helped bring a lot of attention to the NCAA women’s basketball tournament this year.
The two met in the tournament final last year, when Reese and the Tigers defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes.
A rematch took place in the Elite Eight, with a record 12.3 million viewers tuning in to see Iowa win the competition.
The title game between Iowa and South Carolina averaged 18.7 million viewers, compared to 14.8 million viewers for the men’s championship.
Reese realized that she and the rest of the future WNBA players popularized women’s basketball.
“Being able to grow women’s sports is amazing,” Reese said while working a pre-drafted “shift” at Raising Canes in Manhattan this week, per The post.
“It’s crazy how the game is going right now and being able to outplay men.
“It’s exciting and I think our games are a lot more interesting now and a lot of people are watching us.
“Being able to be part of this, I want to be a great player, but I always want to leave my impact and I think I achieved that.”
Last week, Reese announced via Vogue her decision to declare for next week’s WNBA Draft.
She will be joined by Clark, Stanford’s Cameron Brink, South Carolina’s Kamilla Cordoso, Connecticut’s Aaliyah Edwards and other young stars to enter the WNBA.
The WNBA has had ratings issues in the past, but Reese believes the league will only prosper from here on out.
“I know the game is about to go crazy. I know the viewership is increasing and I’ve been seeing all the things on social media, how this would elevate this, even if it’s just the newbies, being able to give the vets this publicity because they deserve it,” said Reese.
Reese didn’t stop there, saying that “women are leading” when it comes to basketball.
“I want to be a great player and leave my legacy in the league. And also have the impact that I have,” she said.
“I think a lot of different things will change within the league and it will be able to go up and up.
“Women are leading the way now.”
Reigning SEC Player of the Year Reese averaged 18.6 points, 12.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game over her four-year career.
She is projected to be picked between 6th and 8th place.
