ESPN commentator Mike Breen was forced to make a hasty correction after misidentifying a Boston Celtics fan as Jrue Holiday’s wife on Sunday night.

The Celtics won their record 18th NBA title with their victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

At the end of the game, with Boston clearly headed for victory, analyst Doris Burke praised Jrue Holiday and his wife and the commitment they made to Boston.

At that moment, ESPN cameras began to show a woman in the crowd.

“So it’s 4:39 left… and there’s his wife,” Breen said.

The only problem was that it wasn’t. And a few minutes later the apology came.

“We want to make a quick correction and apologize, that was not Jrue Holiday’s wife,” Breen said.

As you can imagine, fans weren’t waiting to respond to the error on X, the site formerly known as Twitter.

“Weird, but the director really left it out to dry,” wrote one fan.

“That was painful. Waiting for the apology made everything worse,” said another fan.

“Breen wasn’t at the game,” said a third fan.

Jrue’s wife, Lauren Holiday, is a brilliant athlete in her own right.

‘Don’t do this,’ warned Stephen A. Smith by NBA legend Paul George after making Kawhi Leonard dig on live TV

She was a member of the United States national soccer team from 2007 to 2015, winning two Olympic gold medals and the World Cup.

A 106-88 victory for the Celtics gave them a 4-1 victory over the Mavericks in the series.

An 18th title for Boston puts them ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers in the all-time standings.

NFL Legend Tom Bradywho led the New England Patriots to six Super Bowls, toasted their victory at the X.

“Another one in Boston,” he wrote.

“He was with me the whole time, so we shared it together.”
