MICHAEL Jordan has been criticized for his statistics and he is not who fans would expect.
FS1 star Nick Wright tried to win Michael Jordan’s Defensive Player of the Year award for the 1988 season on his show What’s Wright? With Nick Wright.
In 1988, Jordan averaged 35 points, 5.9 assists, 3.2 steals and 1.6 blocks per game.
“Michael Jordan’s 1988 Defensive Player of the Year Award, fugazi, fraudulent inflated statistics”, Wright he said.
This comes after Yahoo’s Tom Haberstroh dived deep in Jordan’s home and away defensive statistics during the 1988 season.
Haberstroh revealed that Jordan averaged 4 steals and 2.1 blocks at home, but on the road he recorded just 2.1 steals and 1.2 blocks.
“On the road, when there was a seemingly neutral scorer, he averaged three steals and blocks per game,” Wright said.
“But at home those numbers jumped to five and a half, now he was better at home than on the road, is that common?
“A difference of 182 percent.”
Wright revealed that Haberstroh also obtained complete footage of six Jordan home games from the 1988 season.
“Michael Jordan had 12 steals and the home box scored 28,” Wright said.
“There was a game where they credited Jordan with more steals than the other team had turnovers.
“It could give a different tone to the GOAT conversation.
“I’m just here for a fair and accurate reading of NBA history.”
Fans rushed to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their opinion on the recent revelation.
“Damn…nothing is going to take away from MJ’s absolute, unparalleled offensive talent…but that’s unfortunate if true,” one fan wrote.
“Jordan being exposed [laughing emoji] bro… everyone knows that Pippen was the best defender on that team”, commented a second fan.
“That’s unfortunate, but to be honest, this award/season isn’t in the top three for reasons people mention MJ being the GOAT,” argued a third.
“Let’s see the evidence”, asked a fourth fan.
“Absolutely contaminated!” wrote a fifth fan.
In addition to winning the DPOY award in 1988, Jordan also led the league in scoring.
He is the only player in NBA history to win a scoring title and a DPOY award in the same season.
Jordan is widely recognized as the greatest basketball player of all time and is undefeated in the NBA Finals with a 6-0 record.
