NBA Draft prospect Kyle Filipowski shockingly fell out of the first round on Wednesday night.
The Duke product was expected to be acquired on opening day, but some off-court concerns took him down.
The strange allegations came to light before the second round.
ESPN’s Jonathan Givony reported that the teams were “talking about” the age difference between Filipowski and his longtime girlfriend, Caitlin Hutchison.
He also alleged that Filipowski became estranged from his family due to the relationship.
“NBA teams are talking about the fact that they have question marks about his girlfriend being so much older than him, why he has become estranged from his family because of this whole situation,” he said. Givony said on NBA Today.
“He apparently doesn’t talk to his parents or his brother and it’s a very, very strange situation.
“I personally don’t understand why that would make him fall like that in the second round.
“There is no doubt about his character, but NBA teams are talking about his nervousness and his training was not good.
“And when they asked him about the situation in interviews, the answers they got were not satisfactory to them.”
Filipowski ended up being selected with the 32nd pick by the Utah Jazz, but the accusations didn’t stop there.
A person claiming to be Filipowski’s brother and having an account X claiming to be his mother took to social media to explain the situation.
The two claimed that Hutchison was “grooming” Filipowski and that she “forced” him to break up his family.
The bill claiming to be his brother claimed the story was “pushed under the table almost two years ago”.
Hutchinson is 26 years old, while Filipowski is currently 20, turning 21 later this year.
The two were first photographed at her senior prom in 2022 when he was 18 and she was 24.
Fans reacted to the shocking news and claimed it was one of the craziest story drafts they had ever read.
“The NBA cannot go a single day without being absolutely ridiculous. But this is crazy,” said one fan.
“This might be one of the craziest things I’ve ever seen from a recruit,” said another fan.
“His LAST semester of college was in 2018 and his HS Senior prom was in 2022???? HUHHHH????” a third fan said.
“This whole thing is crazy, son,” said a fourth fan.
“Bro I feel so bad man,” said a fifth fan.
