Former LOUISIANA State University star Angel Reese said she wants to be humbled again after being selected No. 7 by the Chicago Sky in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
The 6-foot-1 forward will join the Sky alongside third overall pick and former South Carolina standout Kamilla Cardoso, who participated in the physical SEC championship game against LSU in March.
After officially joining the Sky, Reese, 21, pointed out that he could have returned to LSU for another season because of the extra year of eligibility he had due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
But the Maryland native said she needed a new challenge in her career after back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances with the Tigers and victory in the 2023 national championship.
“Obviously, coming back would have been amazing for me,” she said.
“But I want more of myself. I want to start again.
“I feel like I’ve been on a roll since the national championship.
“I want to hit rock bottom. I want to be a rookie again. I want to get knocked down by vets.
“I want to be able to stand up and grow and be a sponge.
The new Sky striker added: “This league is really competitive – and I’m a competitive player, so I want to play against a lot of players.”
Reese is headed to Chicago alongside Cardoso, 22, who he faced in a tough SEC championship fight just a few weeks earlier.
South Carolina ended up winning 79-72 before triumphing in the 2024 March Madness final against Caitlin Clark’s Iowa.
But the former LSU offensive lineman said she’s looking forward to being on the same side as Cardoso for a change.
“We fought,” Reese said of facing Cardoso in the past.
“Now being able to be teammates will be amazing.
Cardoso shared the sentiment.

Angel Resee on 2024 WNBA Draft Declaration
“She’s a great player, I’m a great player,” the Brazilian said during her WNBA post-draft press conference.
“Two great players together, nobody’s going to get rebounds on us.”
Cardoso rounded out the WNBA’s top three picks on Monday, being selected after Clark (Indiana Fever) and Cameron Brink (Los Angeles Sparks).
As expected, the Fever made Clark, 22, the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft.
The former Iowa star showed up to the Brooklyn Academy of Music wearing an all-Prada outfit.
In doing so, Clark became the first WNBA or NBA prospect to be dressed for the draft by the Italian fashion house.
