JAYSON Tatum has been chosen as the cover star for NBA 2K25 – but some fans are not impressed.

Take-Two Interactive’s annual basketball video game is set to release across multiple platforms on September 6th.

Tatum won the NBA title last season after helping the Boston Celtics win their first championship since 2008.

He was rewarded with a stint as the cover star of the game franchise, which has sold nearly 150 million units worldwide.

“The champion is here,” the official NBA X account wrote on Wednesday.

“@jaytatum0 is your #NBA2K25 cover star!”

The cover shows Tatum roaring towards the crowd, repping his Celtics uniform and number 0 jersey.

“It is an honor to be named a cover athlete for NBA 2K25,” Tatum said in a press release.

“I’ve been playing NBA 2K since I was a kid and it’s a dream to one day be on the cover.

“Even after coming off an NBA championship, it’s an honor to see this come to life.”

Over the course of the Celtics’ postseason run, Tatum averaged 25 points, 9.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game.

But some fans criticized 2K’s choice, declaring that Tatum’s teammate Jaylen Brown was the better cover star.

Jayson Tatum lands biggest contract in NBA history, worth $314 million, as Boston Celtics hand out $1 billion to starters

Brown was the Finals MVP when the Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks 4-1.

He averaged 20.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game against the Mavs while facing star Luka Doncic.

“It should have been Jaylen Brown, he deserved better,” wrote one fan on X.

“Brown > Tatum,” said another.

“Worst 2k cover ever?” complained a third.

What does the new TV deal mean for the NBA?

By US Sun Assistant Sports Editor Damian Burchardt.

The new television rights deal promises to be a big win for NBA players.

The league is expected to more than double revenue from its media partners, pocketing around $6.9 billion per year, which will inevitably lead to a huge salary cap increase in 2025-26.

This will cause the value of players’ contracts to skyrocket.

Projected numbers suggest we could see the first $100 million per year deal being signed soon.

Boston Celtics All-Star Jayson Tatum is currently set to earn the highest single-season salary in NBA history, bringing in $71.5 million in 2029-30.

It seems like basketball fans would be on the losing side of the fight if the NBA and TNT actually split.

Inside the NBA is a unique sports entertainment program, as evidenced by ESPN’s continued failure to create its own version of the show in recent years.

The NBA won’t be the same without Kenny and Ernie trying to make sense of Shaq and Chuck’s endless fights every Tuesday night.

“The schedule is being driven crazy. Tatum glass is ridiculous right now. Bro never won regular season MVP or Finals MVP, but he somehow beat Jaylen Brown to the cover,” raged a fourth.

“Missed opportunity to have Jayson Tatum AND Jaylen Brown together (would have been 10 times better with both),” said a fifth.

This year’s edition of 2K will be available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

A GameStop WNBA edition of the game will see Las Vegas Aces forward A’ja Wilson appear on the cover.

Tatum and Wilson will then share the cover of the NBA 2K25 All-Star Edition, which will retail for $99.99 per Comic.
