This WNBA season saw record crowds and large television audiences tuning in to watch.

And USA Today’s Meghan L. Hall reported on X, the site formerly known as Twitter, ESPN vice president of production Sara Gaiero saying a new show is “very close.”

The news was well received by fans on social media.

“I think we are very close,” Gaiero said.

“It became very difficult to turn our eyes and say, ‘We can’t find space for this.'”

Fans were quick to respond.

“It took a long time,” said one fan.

“It’s so much bigger now, this should happen,” another person commented.

“I think this will be popular if it happens,” said a third fan.

ESPN is a major media partner of the WNBA and recently reached a new 11-year, $2.2 billion media rights deal.

Clark and Reese dominated sports headlines this year, initially during March Madness.

That continued into this WNBA season, with both players in their rookie year.

Point guard Clark is on the Indiana Fever, while forward Reese plays for the Chicago Sky.

NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal revealed this week that he believes Reese is ahead in the race for WNBA Rookie of the Year.

“I’m not just saying that because she went to LSU, I think she’s definitely leading the Rookie of the Year race,” Shaq said.

‘A little more motivation’

Caitlin Clark insists her Paris 2024 snub has left her even hungrier and more determined to achieve her Olympic dream.

The rookie WNBA sensation was left off the roster for this summer’s Olympics, a shock to many.

“I think it just gives you something to work towards,” Clark said.

“It’s a dream, I hope one day I can be there. I think it’s just a little more motivation.

“You remember that. Hopefully when it comes back four years, I can be there. I’m excited for the girls that are on the team.

“I know it’s the most competitive team in the world and I know it could have gone either way with me being on the team or not being on the team.

“I’m excited for them and I’m going to root for them to win the gold.”

“I give the vote to Angel.”

However, he was careful to praise both players and hail their great influence in recent times.

“Caitlin is a fabulous player, the Steph Curry woman,” Shaq said.

“They’ve done a lot for the game, Caitlin and Angel, because of social media and all the media.

“They really brought the game to where it should have been 10 years ago.”
