INDIANA Fever star Erica Wheeler is in danger of missing this year’s All-Star Weekend.
Wheeler was selected to play in the WNBA All-Star Skills Challenge but has not yet arrived in Phoenix.
On Friday, several airlines had to suspend flights due to a Microsoft-Crowdstrike outage, and the Delta Airlines flight from Wheeler to Phoenix was part of that problem.
Even worse, there were no other flights departing for Phoenix that arrived in time for the 6pm ET start.
“UPDATE: FLIGHT CANCELED,” she tweeted.
“So, yaaaaaa, no airline has flights leaving in time to get to PHX in time for the Skills Challenge!
“The only friend I have who has a PJ, the pilot overran his schedule to fly until Tuesday, so wow!
“WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW!”
Wheeler has since deleted her post, but many fans were tagging notable figures in Indiana to try and help her get to Phoenix.
She would face Brittney Griner, Sophie Cunningham, Allisha Gray and Marina Mabrey.
Wheeler’s flying issues are just another hurdle heading into the WNBA All-Star weekend, as the three-point contest has also been dragged out.
No participants were able to attend, but two of the league’s most prolific three-point shooters declined to participate.
Both Caitlin Clark and Sabrina Ionescu will not play despite being named All Stars.
“The @WNBA has confirmed that [Sabrina Ionescu] It is [Caitlin Clark] were invited to the 3-point contest and declined to participate,” wrote WNBA reporter Doug Feinberg.
“Ionescu participates in the Olympic camp preparing for the Paris Games.”
Clark explained why she will not participate during the All Star press conference.
“I think just rest,” she said.
“I’ve been playing basketball for a year straight, it’s not easy to just show up and shoot from a shelf.
“It’s not something I’ve ever done before. It’s not something I’ve had a lot of time to practice, I’ve been focusing on helping my team win games.
“So I think just taking advantage of this break, I think there will be a lot of opportunities for me to do that at some point…
“I need a break and I need some time to enjoy what I want to do.”
