The Philadelphia 76ers are ready to bolster their roster by signing veteran guard Reggie Jackson.
The former Denver Nuggets star is expected to reconnect with former Los Angeles Clippers teammate Paul George on the 76ers, by ESPN.
Jackson agreed to a contract buyout with the Charlotte Hornets to sign with Philadelphia.
The 34-year-old’s arrival signals the 76ers’ intention to provide additional help to center Joel Embiid to compete for the NBA title.
Many fans were quick to weigh in on the signing on social media.
“How Much Help Does Joel Embiid Need?”. one fan said.
“The 76ers are building a super team,” said another fan.
“PG really recruits his friends all the time, man,” noted a third.
Jackson arrives with NBA championship pedigree, having won a title with the Nuggets in 2023.
He played all 82 games last season with the Nuggets and averaged 10.2 points, 3.8 assists and 1.9 rebounds.
And he moved to Charlotte in early July as part of an epic six-team trade deal.
The Sixers also have 38-year-old Kyle Lowry and 35-year-old Eric Gordon at guards, as well as Tyrese Maxey.
Jackson was the 24th pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.
He played 13 seasons in the NBA, including stints with the Detroit Pistons, Oklahoma City Thunder, Clippers and Nuggets.
Jackson’s arrival comes shortly after George signed a four-year, $212 million contract with the 76ers.
“I thought everything was perfectly aligned” George said of his cross-country move to Philadelphia.
What does the new TV deal mean for the NBA?
By US Sun Assistant Sports Editor Damian Burchardt.
The new television rights deal promises to be a big win for NBA players.
The league is expected to more than double revenue from its media partners, pocketing around $6.9 billion per year, which will inevitably lead to a huge salary cap increase in 2025-26.
This will cause the value of players’ contracts to skyrocket.
Projected numbers suggest we could see the first $100 million per year deal being signed soon.
Boston Celtics All-Star Jayson Tatum is currently set to earn the highest single-season salary in NBA history, bringing in $71.5 million in 2029-30.
If TNT Sports successfully fulfills one of its bids to maintain its decades-long partnership with the league, basketball fans will also be on the winning side.
The network’s flagship Inside the NBA is a unique sports entertainment program, as evidenced by ESPN’s continued failure to present its own version of the show in recent years.
The NBA wouldn’t be the same without Kenny and Ernie trying to make sense of Shaq and Chuck’s endless fights every Tuesday night.
“I think we have a real, legitimate chance.”
George is eager to join Maxey and Embiid.
“Tyrese has youth, legs, speed, quickness,” George said.
“I know it’s hard for [Embiid] playing one-on-one on the block, so I’m looking forward to giving him a chance to play his game.”
He added: “They will help me a lot.”
Meanwhile, New Jersey officials launched an audacious attempt to lure the 76ers to the Garden State.
