TYSON FURY faces Oleksandr Usyk in a huge, undisputed heavyweight title showdown next month.

Fury suffered a nasty cut above his right eye during sparring earlier this month and saw his clash with Usyk on February 17 go up in smoke as a result.

Usyk revealed he missed the birth of his daughter earlier this year to focus on Fury’s training camp, but now he needs to refocus on a new date.

Fury holds the WBC title in boxing’s glamor division, while Usyk holds the WBA, WBO, IBF and Ring Magazine straps.

The pair have been on a collision course to fight for 18 months following Usyk’s rematch victory over Anthony Joshua in August 2022.

Fury overcame boxing newcomer and former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou last October, when he was impressively knocked down before winning the fight on points.

And Fury’s latest sparring fight with heavyweight Agron Smakici, which saw an 11-point cut open below his eyebrow, will be another confidence booster for Usyk.

The Ukrainian is aiming to become the first man in history to win undisputed titles at both cruiserweight and heavyweight – and is just one win away.

A victory for Fury, on the other hand, would kick off an all-British mega fight with Anthony Joshua, who faces Ngannou himself on March 8th.

What was said?

“I just smiled,” Usyk he said upon hearing the news of the postponement.

“And I said ‘OK – I’m going to finish my training and I’m going to do my job stretching my back.’

“Tyson. Hi, my brother. Don’t be afraid. I won’t leave you alone.

“I’m still happy – things happen, that’s life,” he said.

“I’m very happy because now I’m going to Ukraine. I see my two daughters and my wife. I go to my church and pray. I rest for a while and go back to my camp.”

Fury said of the postponement: “I am absolutely devastated after preparing for this fight for so long and being in excellent condition.

“I feel bad for everyone involved in this great event and will work diligently towards the rescheduled date once the eye has healed.

“I can only apologize to everyone affected, including my own team, Team Usyk, the fighters on the undercard, partners and fans, as well as our hosts and my friends in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
