DEVIN HANEY is “furious” after Ryan Garcia allegedly failed a post-fight drugs test and wants his defeat overturned.
This comes after the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) reportedly discovered that Garcia had tested positive for the anabolic agent ostarine.
ESPN say they have obtained VADA testing documents that show Garcia tested positive in a urine sample before the fight.
These results have only now come to light, however.
Garcia entered the fight three pounds over the weight limit, but the fight went ahead as scheduled in New York last month.
Garcia would score a surprising victory over Haney, knocking him down three times on the way to the decision win.
Now, Haney’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has broken his silence on the apparently positive result and revealed that Haney would like the result to be overturned.
Hearn said: “I spoke to Devin last night, he is absolutely furious. The guy was 3 pounds overweight and had PEDs in his system.
“He will want an immediate non-tender.
“Regardless of Ryan’s innocence or guilt, he had PEDs in his system when he fought Devin and was 3 pounds overweight.
“If you’re Devin, you’re thinking, ‘Fuck, I’m screwed.’”
Garcia maintains his innocence and posted, “Everyone knows I don’t cheat,” on X before saying, “I’ve never taken steroids. Big lies, I beat him up.
He now has 10 days to request a B sample to be tested.
His A sample also tested positive for another PED called 19-norandrosterone, but its presence remains unconfirmed pending further laboratory analysis.
Oscar De La Hoya Golden Boy Promotions, with whom Garcia is signed, said in a statement that it is working with Garcia to “determine how this discovery came about.”
They went on to say: “Ryan has released several statements knowingly denying the use of any banned substances – and we believe him.”
Haney released his own statement to ESPN saying, “We learned about this situation not long ago and it is unfortunate that Ryan cheated and disrespected the fans and the sport of boxing by fighting dirty and positive not once, but twice.
“Ryan owes his fans an apology and from his recent tweet he still thinks this is a joke. We put our lives on the line to entertain people for a living.
“You don’t play boxing. It puts fighting in a completely different light. Despite the disadvantage, I still fought on my shield and stood up! People die in this sport. This is no joke.”
Devin Haney Record

Devin Haney entered the fight against Garcia undefeated. With Garcia now failing a drug test, this could come back into effect. This is how it looks now.
