OLEKSANDR USYK burst into tears as he remembered his father’s heavenly visits before big fights.
The 37-year-old WBA, WBO and IBF champion from Ukraine won gold at the 2012 London Olympics.
But before he got home to celebrate with his father, who was already fighting and was a number 1 fan, he passed away.
Tragically, Usyk’s decision to wait three days for the arrival of a new luxury car – which he was desperate to show his father after a life of hardship – meant he missed his final moments.
But Usyk Sr returns before big fights and gives his son ethereal courage.
He explained to TNT: “He saw me become an Olympic champion, but I couldn’t get back in time to show him the gold medal.
“When I arrived he was already lying in the coffin.
“I handed him the medal, placed it in his dead hand and left the room.
“I was coming back from London, I was already in Ukraine, three more days and I would be home, but I was waiting for a supercar to arrive.
“I wanted to bring him with me and show him what a cool car I had.

“My mom called me at 3 a.m. to tell me the news.”
Usyk, a devout father of four, exudes a sense of guilt for not being present at his father’s farewell.
But fortunately on the eve of great fights, his proud father returns in his dreams and manages to show his son how proud he is of his magnificent achievements.
“Sometimes he comes to me the day before the fight,” he said with tears in his eyes and emotion choking his voice.
“Don’t cry,” he barked playfully as he wiped away his tears. “You are a man.
“Yes, sometimes he comes in the day before the fight and smiles.”
