ANTHONY JOSHUA will step in and fight Saturday night’s undisputed winner – if opening Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk is a one-man show.

The 35-year-old WBC Gypsy King and the 37-year-old WBA, IBF and WBO champion from Ukraine already have a big-money reprise lined up for this winter.

But AJ’s trainer Ben Davison, 31 – who has trained Fury for almost three years – reckons a one-sided defeat opens the door for 34-year-old Joshua to launch himself for another world title shot.

The London 2012 legend has been in Riyadh training all week and will commentate on this iconic clash between his domestic rival and two-time conqueror.

And Davison – who is already in charge of two convincing victories – reckons he can really crash the party if one of the defending champions disappoints in Saudi Arabia.

Harlow’s trainer told SunSport: “Maybe I’m looking at this with an Anthony Joshua hat on.

“But if this is a one-sided fight, either way, I think the fans will demand that Anthony Joshua fights the winner.

“If Fury wins, then the AJ fight will be the biggest fight in British boxing history – I don’t think it’s even up for debate.

“You couldn’t even put a label on what that fight would mean for British boxing, from the grassroots to the football stadiums.

“And if Usyk wins, I’m very excited to have the opportunity to make amends for those two losses.”

Britain’s last undisputed ruler, Lennox Lewis, reckons Davison’s time in the minds and careers of both Britons could play a key role in any potential mega fight.

When SunSport suggests that Fury could look across the ring and see AJ and his former mentor as the ultimate threat, or Rejects United, he downplays their role in the perfectly balanced rivalry.

He said: “I understand the feeling. But the reality is that I was 24 years old when I was training Tyson.

“I am now 31 years old and have developed as a coach.

“I’m sure Tyson has developed as a fighter and AJ is changing and improving as a fighter, so the situation is very different.

“They are two elite fighters, so it will come down to a lot of different things to decide how the fight is won or lost. I don’t think I’m that big of a factor.”

Despite bringing Fury back from the brink, as a coach and friend and even in the Fury family home for months, Davison was harshly fired following Otto Wallin’s bloody and disheartening victory in 2019.

Remarkably, for a sport plagued by trash talk and gossip, neither man has ever publicly criticized the other.

And Davison will look back with pride on his part in Fury’s odyssey if he completes the division for the first time in 25 years.

He said of Fury’s victory: “It would be great to look back and think I had a small part in it.

“But what I’ve done in terms of your entire life and to get to this point is insignificant.

“There will always be those positive memories and there was never any bad words between us and I always wish him all the best.”
