TYSON FURY was urged to abandon his “responsible” father John after his “embarrassing” antics before and during his fight with Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury made the decision to bring his father to training camp for the historic undisputed title fight in an official capacity for the first time.

But before the fight even began, the volatile 59-year-old – who was once arrested for examining a man’s eye – was already making unwanted headlines.

John headbutted a minor member of Usyk’s camp shortly after landing in notoriously strict Saudi Arabia.

Somehow the former fighter got worse, but son Tyson’s stunned reaction to the ruck was caught on camera.

And British boxing legend Carl Froch insisted it was an unwanted distraction just days before the biggest night of Fury’s career.

Froch told SunSport, via Lucky Block: “He’s a risk. He must work hard with the pressure he puts on Tyson.

“Remember Tyson came into the room after Big John headbutted that skinny kid from Team Usyk and he said – ‘what did you do with your head, you idiot?’

“He had blood running all over his face, I think he thinks it makes him look tough, doesn’t he?

“It keeps all the blood on his face, it’s a small cut – I’ve had a worse shave and he lets the blood run all over his face as if he were a big, hard man.

“What does he say, ‘Blood, courage and honor, this is what I do every day?’ It’s embarrassing, but I think Tyson is used to it.

“Even though he’s used to his dad being a bit of a jerk, he might think ‘this isn’t good, we’re in Saudi Arabia, big fight’ – the last thing you want is distractions.

Tyson Fury WILL rematch Oleksandr Usyk after shock defeat confirms promoter with date and location revealed

“For me, if you have someone like that on the team, he has to leave.

“About ‘Froch in the fight‘ I said, listen, get John out of the way and put him back in his crate and just keep him out of the way because he’s a liability.

“We haven’t seen much of him, have we? He’s definitely missing, I think he was told – because we never saw him on Saturday after that incident.

“It’s a big obstacle for Tyson in the biggest fight of his life and he has his father playing along, trying to steal the spotlight. It’s not good for Tyson.”

Fury has chopped and changed trainers over the years, going from Uncle Peter to newcomer Ben Davison and now Sugarhill Steward, nephew of the legendary Emanuel.

But his father, John, has always stayed in the background at camps and on street corners…until now.

John was the third member of the crowded Fury corner, joining coach Steward and assistant coach, former world champion Andy Lee.

And damning footage following Fury’s split decision defeat to Usyk revealed John barking orders shouting at the main voice Steward.

Fury survived a brutal attack in the ninth round, where Usyk was considered unfortunate not to be able to secure a stoppage victory.

But the damage to the corner had already been done at that point, as the dethroned Gypsy King surrendered his undefeated record and won the WBC belt.

Froch added: “His performance was really good, he fought really well and he gave Usyk the toughest fight he’s ever had in professional football, for sure – I know he lost a few as an amateur.

“Big, strong, good performance – slow start, good middle, not so smart at the end, was defeated in the ninth round.

“I was proud of him, he did British boxing proud, but Usyk was the better man and won.

Despite all the love for the resurgent AJ… these two are head, shoulders and fists ahead of everyone else

OLEKSANDR USYK is the deserved and undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, writes Wally Downes Jr.

A big gun doesn’t always beat a big gun, not when David has the weight of a beleaguered nation on his shoulders and is able to land every countryman with every blow.

Usyk did what Usyk does, he moved magnificently, countered and outclassed his taller, heavier opponent.

Somehow, he manages to use every physical disadvantage to his advantage.

But what the hell is Fury doing waking up in round nine?

Why does a father of eight with £300 million in the bank, three best-selling books and a Netflix series go into the deep end?

Britain is not reacting to Putin’s army, Morecambe is not occupied.

So when the 35-year-old’s senses are scrambled, when the screen calls to him, when he’s so desperate not to get knocked down that he’s willing to jump through every rope like a drunk, when he eventually has to fall into a corner, Why doesn’t he just stay down?

He earned the right to surrender, as did his millions.

The guts, guts, and bloody mentality it took to walk off that deck, with a broken nose and shattered ego, is not comprehensible to us mortals.

Fury said he felt he won the fight, but it was too worthy to call it robbery or corruption. No doubt your father will tarnish that decency when you read this.

The rematch will be excellent.

Because for all the love we have for the resurgent Anthony Joshua – who was ringside at that iconic event – these two polar opposite men are head, shoulders, fists, hearts and brains ahead of everyone else.

There are the first two, then there is a void and then there is the rest.

Read the verdict on Wally’s big fight in full here…

“For some people it was a little controversial and close, some people think Tyson won.

“Usyk really deserved a stoppage or a chance to finish the job in the ninth round when the referee was helping Tyson.

“Big John was a pain in the ass and a hindrance to Tyson, I don’t think he helped.”

Fury, 35, looks set for an October rematch in Saudi Arabia with Usyk, 37, who became the first undisputed king of four heavyweight belts.

The British star regretted not stepping on the gas in the final rounds after being told he was in the corner of calamity.

But Froch, 46, said: “The advice has come from different people, one shouting in your ear, one in front of you doing shadow boxing and you’re not listening to anyone.

“He even said in the next press conference that if they had told me to go after him in the last round, I would have done more.

“It’s a lame excuse, but the corner was a mess.”
