ANTHONY JOSHUA has revealed he is getting closer to his next fight as he prepares for a return to Wembley.

AJ is expected to return to the 90,000-seat stadium in September, after three fights in Saudi Arabia.

Instead, Saudi Arabian boxing chief Turki Alalshikh is making his first impact on the British market by promoting Joshua’s homecoming fight.

An announcement appears to be on the way as Joshua posted: “Almost finished my negotiations for my next fight! I feel motivated.”

Joshua twice sold out Wembley for his world title victories over Wladimir Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin.

He also defeated Carlos Takam and Joseph Parker at the 75,000-seat Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

His most recent fights in the UK were at O2, with wins over Jermaine Franklin and Robert Helenius.

They followed a double defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, 37, who has since defeated Tyson Fury, 35, to become undisputed champion.

And with the pair due to rematch in Riyadh on December 21, AJ has been forced to look elsewhere for an opponent.

Deontay Wilder was in contention but got his lines wrong twice after defeats to Parker, 32, and Zhilei Zhang, 41.

How AJ got to the top

ANTHONY JOSHUA clawed his way to the top of the world before being knocked off his perch.

The former WBC American champion, 38, now faces retirement.

Instead, it opened up the opportunity for Daniel Dubois, 26, to face Joshua, 34, in an all-British blockbuster at Wembley.

Dubois is coming off the biggest victory of his career against Filip Hrgovic, 32, in Saudi Arabia.

This crowned him interim IBF champion and next in line for Usyk’s belt.

The Ukrainian faced the loss of his title due to the rematch with Fury, which prevented him from fighting his IBF number 1 challenger.

But so far, Usyk has retained his titles despite the threat of Joshua and Dubois fighting for the spot in London.

A press conference in the capital is scheduled for June 26th, where the next fight and AJ’s title hopes will be confirmed.

He is coming off a second-round knockout of former UFC star Francis Ngannou, 37, in March.
