He retired from football in 2017 and went on to work as a coach in America.

But now, at 45, Novo is making a surprising move into the boxing ring to take on Scottish TikToker Caz Milligan.

Milligan – like Jake Paul – went from a career on social media to boxing.

They will fight at the famous OVO Hydro in Glasgow on August 10th.

Novo memorably scored the winning penalty to send Rangers to the 2008 Uefa Cup Final – which they lost to Zenit St Petersburg.

He later moved to Sporting Gijon in his native Spain and had spells in Poland, Northern Ireland, the USA and back in Scotland with Morton.

He also opened a bar on Paisley Road West and became coach of Lexington SC in Kentucky.

In 2018, he suffered a suspected heart attack while playing for the Rangers veterans at a tournament in Germany.

Novo said: “Twenty years ago I used to score goals for Rangers. Now I’m fighting my biggest fan.

“Everything I went through, I had a lot of problems in my life – health problems.

“No matter what happens in life, you can strive and try to do whatever you want.

“I’m excited about this event and I hope everyone can come out and support me and enjoy it.”
