GB’s hopes were left on Lewis Richardson and Chantelle Reid after four of the six Brits were knocked out.

Middleweight Reid was up first against Morocco’s Khadija El Mardi and looked to have secured victory in the final stretch.

But in another equally sad story plaguing the GB boxers in Paris – she lost in a split decision.

At this point, fans were almost expecting the harsh verdict, but the uproar still occurred online when one said: “How the hell did Chantelle Reid miss this?!?

“It’s one more result in a long list that proves that Olympic boxing is a sham.”

Another raged: “Another boxing farce, this time Derby’s Chantelle Reid. The trial was a disgrace and needs to be investigated.”

One fumed: “Chantelle Reid was absolutely robbed at the boxing Olympics, won every round for me, first and third were clear. Embarrassing.”

Another said: “4th robbery.”

Team GB’s boxing nightmare in Paris

The TEAM GB boxing team were knocked off the podium in dramatic fashion.

The value of the £12 million pumped into boxing for the Paris Olympic cycle will be seriously questioned.

Mike Tyson was world champion in 1996, the last time Britain left without an Olympic boxing medal.

The path paved by amateur pioneers like Audley Harrison, Amir Khan and James DeGale appears to have crumbled.

It seems unlikely that performance director Rob McCracken will remain at the helm.

But it’s not British boxing that’s desperate for reform – it’s the sport’s entire amateur code.

Boxing could be suspended in 2028 in Los Angeles if a replacement body is not found to run the event.

Gold duo Galal Yafai and Lauren Price led last time when GB won six medals in Tokyo three years ago.

Nicola Adams won gold in Rio, with Joe Joyce denied the title by scandalous judging that later cost the IBA its job of running boxing for the IOC.

There was a golden hat-trick at London 2012 through Adams, Luke Campbell and Anthony Joshua.

But for the first time since 1996 – when Mike Tyson was still world champion – Britain faces returning without an Olympic boxing medal.
