BBC ONE has chosen not to show Imane Khelif’s boxing quarter-final victory over Anna Luca Hamori.

Khelif’s 46-second first-round victory over Angela Carini sparked a global debate about gender after the Italian broke down in tears.

The 25-year-old Algerian was born female – but failed the gender test at the Russian-led IBA-sanctioned World Championships in New Delhi last year.

It was not specified what the exact nature of the gender test was.

But they confirmed that she did not undergo testosterone tests.

And Khelif does not identify as transgender or intersex.

Her participation in the women’s welterweight event was not without controversy, however, with the Italian Prime Minister among those who criticized the situation.

Carini has since apologized to Khelif.

With Khelif’s campaign becoming a huge story, many fans wanted to watch his second fight.

But with BBC One opting to show Team GB star gymnast Max Whitlock, some have struggled to find coverage of Khelif’s fight with Hamori, which was shown on iPlayer.

One fan wrote on social media: “Anyone who finds khelif boxing in the UK has got a fire stick. Tried all the different countries on Eurosport and nothing on the BBC about boxing. Strange.”

While a second asked: “I can’t find women’s boxing on BBC iplayer?”

The BBC has been contacted for comment.

iPlayer’s coverage chose to reference the controversy surrounding Khelif.

While the broadcast of the fight on Discovery Plus chose not to talk about the matter.

After the unanimous decision victory over Hamori, Khelif secured a medal in the under-66kg event.
