LAWRENCE – Kansas basketball was added to its 2024-25 roster on Friday, according to various reports.

The Jayhawks have landed the commitment of Northern Illinois transfer David Coit. Coit, who most recently played junior guard in the Mid-American Conference, will join a Big 12 Conference team with national championship aspirations. He is the latest to be part of a team that sought more depth than last season.

“Kansas was the best situation for me,” Coit said said 247Sports. “Coach (Bill) Trust me and trust my ability to come in, play and score. He was honest with me from the beginning. He recruited me months ago, before the summer. He was always transparent about what he was looking for and his coaching staff did the same. It was a great situation for me.”

Kansas is already returning players such as graduate center Hunter Dickinson, graduate guard Dajuan Harris Jr. and senior forward KJ Adams Jr.. It has already added, through the transfer portal, talents such as junior guard AJ Storr (Wisconsin), junior guard Rylan Griffen (Alabama) and senior guard Zeke Mayo (South Dakota State). In Coit, the Jayhawks bring in someone who started all 29 games he played last season and averaged 20.8 points, 3.4 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game.

Coit, listed at 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds by NIU, will certainly have to compete for playing time. He will have to prove he can make the jump from mid to high. But his ability to score the ball won’t be lost on a team that can’t get enough of that kind of talent.

“I fit into the offense, knowing we have a great wing and really good guards,” Coit also told 247Sports. “They want me to stretch the court, play, play on and off the ball and just be a combo guard. I’ll be tasked with using my scoring and shooting ability, but also playing and making things easier for the guys around me. That was the point of emphasis in my recruitment. Playing with other great players is when I play my best. I like scoring, but I also like being unselfish and being able to make plays for others. That’s what I was looking for and that’s what they had to offer me.”
