One of the most versatile guards and celebrated prospects in the Rivals of 2025150, Meleek Thomas says it plans to make a decision in early fall. Officially, Thomas is still considering a healthy set of programs, but his options are not on an equal footing at this late stage in the process.
Today, Rivals national analyst Rob Cassidy cuts through the smoke and ranks the real candidates to land Thomas, in order of how likely each is to secure his letter of intent.

1. UCONN
The Huskies have been in the middle of the race to land Thomas for some time. Yet, Arkansas was said to be at the same level or slightly ahead UConn until Thomas visited Storrs in June. However, things seemed to change quickly after that trip as rumors swirled around a possible engagement.
Thomas has been on record saying he would like to make his college decision before the start of his senior season, and a few weeks ago he said he plans to finalize his decision “sometime in August or early September.”
The way things are trending, UConn fans should expect a commitment to come sooner rather than later as the Huskies appear to have taken the lead down the stretch.

2. ARKANSAS
The Razorbacks moved to the top of Thomas’ list after signing João Calipari in April, but never completely separated himself from the group. These days, Arkansas seems more likely to land Darius Acuffa fellow five-star, than to land Thomas, who appears to be falling in love with defending champion UConn.
The chance of Calipari landing both highly touted guards is slim, to say the least. Stranger things have happened, sure, but it looks like dominoes are falling, and the tea leaves suggest that Acuff, not Thomas, will ultimately fall in Fayetteville.

3. Auburn
Auburn seemed to have had a lot of traction in the early stages of Thomas’ recruitment. The five-star campus visited campus last fall and there was a short period of time where interest between Thomas and Bruce PearlThe FC technical team shone. The flame appears to have dimmed in recent months, however, as UConn and Arkansas separated themselves from the pack.
It’s impossible to rule out Pearl and company completely, but it would significantly shock everyone involved if the Tigers were the pick on decision day.

4. PITT
Pitt poured a lot of time and resources into the early stages of Thomas’ recruitment and sought a chance to drill most of the process. However, things seemed to be slowly slipping away from the Panthers starting at the beginning of this year. The death blow may have been delivered just before Pittsburgh-born Thomas announced his intention to leave the Steel City to play in the Atlanta-based Overtime Elite League this season.
Thomas is familiar with his hometown school and has a strong relationship with the Pitt coaching staff, but it seems extremely unlikely that he would choose the Panthers at this point.
