July 22 – SAN ANTONIO – Westwood head basketball coach Kadrian Bryant is quickly becoming one of the state’s most respected basketball coaches, as evidenced by his selection to present at this year’s Texas High School Coaches Convention Association in San Antonio.
The presentation, which covered how to effectively transition during a basketball game, was attended by dozens of Texas high school basketball coaches, all looking to bring a small piece of Bryant’s extensive basketball knowledge back to their respective programs.
The transition element of a basketball game is one of the most important factors of a good team. The transition, or the process of switching from defense to offense or vice versa, is one of the most chaotic parts of a basketball game, and a team’s ability to maintain or steal possession during the transition can be decisive or decisive, regardless of. whether it be a single game or the season as a whole.
Bryant had a pair of trusted helpers for his demonstration, while his sons Kavian and Kaden took to the court like their father’s real-life chess pieces, giving the coaches in attendance a visual aid to the concepts Bryant presented to them.
Bryants’ extensive knowledge comes from years entrenched in the game of basketball, first as a star player for the Carthage Bulldogs before moving on to Mississippi Valley State, playing in the 2007 NIT basketball tournament with the Delta Devils. He also had coaching stints at Tenaha, Crockett and North Forney High Schools.
Although the football season has not yet begun, anticipation for the 2024-25 Westwood basketball season is already high as the Panthers had their best season in program history a season ago, qualifying for the 3A semifinals Region 3 and posting an overall season record of 27-9. The Panthers were led by Bryant’s son Kavian, who already holds a Division 1 college basketball offer from the University of California after a record-setting freshman season, as well as football offers from SMU and the University of Tulsa.
