The 2024 Paris Olympics are underway, with men’s basketball getting into action on Saturday. On the opening day of the tournament, a certain Husker helped his country to victory.
Jack McVeigh scored 13 points for Australia in their opening game against Spain. He shot 4 of 8 from the field and 3 of 6 from beyond the arc. The Australian also hit two free throws.
McVeigh’s 13 points helped Australia start the tournament strongly. They defeated Spain 92-80 to win 1-0 in Group A. Australia face Canada on Tuesday and Greece on Friday. The top eight placed after the group stage advance to the quarterfinals.
McVeigh played for Nebraska from 2015 to 2018. Last season, McVeigh led the NBL’s Tasmania JackJumpers with 17.3 points per game, helping them reach the NBL championship and winning Grand Final MVP. He recently signed with the Houston Rockets.
