Missouri football’s Class of ’25 takes a hit as 4-star wide receiver re-commits to UCF

One of the Tigers’ highest-ranked commitments in the 2025 class changed his commitment and opted to stay closer to home.

Jayvan Boggs, a four-star wide receiver who originally committed to Missouri’s upcoming football class last month, decommitted from MU on Tuesday night and instead opted to play football at UCF, according to a report by On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Boggs is from Cocoa, Fla., which is near the second-year Big 12 school led by Gus Malzahn, with whom Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz worked as an assistant at Auburn and Arkansas State.

The wide receiver is ranked as the No. 211 player in the country and the No. 23 wide receiver in his class, according to the composite rankings from recruiting service 247Sports.

Boggs originally committed to Mizzou on July 4, kicking off one of the best recruiting streaks in Missouri history. The Tigers landed five highly ranked prospects in the space of a week after that, boosting their class to the 11th-ranked group in the country.

Following Boggs’ move to UCF — making him the highest-rated recruit in UCF history, per Rivals — Mizzou now sits at No. 16 in 247Sports’ national team rankings. The Tigers still have 16 players committed, with an average star rating that puts them eighth in the now 16-team SEC.

Initial commitments must often be entered into with a dose of skepticism: verbal commitments are free to circulate until they are committed to paper during the initial national signature period, which will begin on December 4 this year.

The Tigers still have two high-pedigree receivers committed in their 2025 class.

Donovan Olugbode, who is a top-100 national recruit and was signed the day after Boggs, is a four-star receiver out of Illinois who is about to begin his senior season on a national schedule at Florida-based IMG Academy. Ironton, Ohio, native Shaun Terry, a three-star prospect, is also committed to MU.

The Tigers are expected to lose wide receiver Luther Burden III to an early NFL Draft declaration at the end of the 2024 season, as he is tipped to be a top-10 overall pick. Standouts Theo Wease Jr. and Mookie Cooper are entering their respective final years of eligibility.

That leaves the potential for six scholarship wide receivers to return to Mizzou next season: Marquis Johnson; Mekhi Miller; Daniel Blood; Joshua Manning; Courtney Crutchfield; and James Madison II.
