Michigan football, despite having elite corners for most of the last decade, has struggled lately to bring in elite cornerbacks.
Yes, sometimes the Wolverines have managed to wake up late (like JoZiah Edmond, who committed as a three-star last year near the bottom of his class, but was a four-star and a top commit at the time he signed), but it seems like whenever Michigan targets a top-tier corner, they end up elsewhere.
This trend has officially been bucked.
The Wolverines have long sought 2025 Kilgore (Tx.) four-star cornerback Jayden Sanders — who was also considering Baylor and Oklahoma State. But on Saturday, Sanders committed to Michigan.

Size not verified, but appears tall and strong on the hull. Instinctive three-sport playmaker with strong football pedigree, son of a former all-conference corner who played for some great TCU teams in the late 2000s. Tri-sport athlete with basketball and track experience who excels in functional athletics at football field. It rises to an open floor with the ability to finish above the edge. Productive in all three phases, including two special teams TDs as a junior. Field-stretching vertical shot threat at receiver. Big D-frame corner with potential to fit into a frame boundary corner role very well, though skill set and instincts could fit top at safety as well. Not necessarily a top burner, but quite quick with an unorthodox gear, but not caught from behind. Genuine Power Four prospect in the secondary. He has development potential to become a difference-maker in college with advantages in the NFL Draft.
Sanders is Michigan’s 16th commitment in the class of 2025. With him in the mix, the Wolverines move from 15th to 14th in the 247Sports team rankings, usurping State of Pennsylvaniais the place.
