A prize that Alabama Crimson Tide never won, the program saw tight end C.J. Dippre named to the 2024 Mackey Award preseason watch list last Friday.
The award is given annually to the most outstanding tight end in college football.
Dippre, a senior, is entering his second season in Tuscaloosa this fall after transferring from Maryland ahead of the 2023 fall campaign. A year ago, Dippre played a prominent tight end role at Alabama, catching 11 passes to 187 yards.
Before Alabama, Dippre had a combined 33 receptions for 339 yards and three touchdowns during his time at Maryland. This included the best season of his career in 2022, in which he had 30 receptions for 314 yards and three scores.
Dippre is now expected to be arguably the top name in what is a deep tight end room for the Crimson Tide this season, featuring alongside the likes of Robbie Ouzts, washington transfer Josh Cuevas and more.
