This offseason, any news around Texas A&M Outside of recruiting or potentially adding depth in multiple position groups, the focus will be on Aggies starting quarterback Conner Weigman, who will be less than a year removed from his season-ending injury last fall.

This spring, coach Mike Elko, who helped recruit Weigman to College Station during his time as A&M’s defensive coordinator (2018-2021), maintained the same tone regarding Conner’s continued progress. The redshirt sophomore played in the Maroon & White spring game but avoided taking risks outside the pocket.

Last week, Elkoduring his appearance on Brazos Valley A&M Coach Night, put a hypothetical stamp on Conner Weigman’s health speech, stating:

“Conner. Will. Be. Fine. … He was able to do a good quality job. He’s going to be a lot better when we show up at Notre Dame.”

Yes, less than four months after Texas A&M’s season opener against Notre Dame on Aug. 31, Weigman should be completely healthy barring any random setbacks. However, if he wants to capitalize on his early success last season after throwing for nearly 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns in the first four contests, the offensive line and wide receiver unit will need to improve drastically.

On Saturday, Pro Football Focus’s Max Chadwick commented on Weigman’s future in the NFL. The talented signal-caller will only be eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft if he puts it all together this season and, most importantly, stays on the field.

“If he can build on the few games we’ve seen in 2023, he could be a dark horse candidate for QB 1 next April.”

With Jimbo Fisher and his complicated scheme officially launched, this is a new beginning for Weigman to once again establish himself as the premier signal-caller, not just in the SEC, but across the country.
