If there’s one position on the Penn State football roster that needs blue-chip players the most, it’s the wide receiver position. Penn State’s struggles to obtain elite wide receivers and keep them in town have been a significant deficiency in recent years. But the Nittany Lions are working to recruit one of the nation’s top wide receivers in the 2025 class to Happy Valley and are now preparing for an important official visit next month.

Philip Bell, a consensus four-star wide receiver from California, has six official visits on his schedule, with Penn State among them. According to 247 SportsBell will make his first official visit to Georgia this week. He will then visit new Big Ten member washington at the end of May.

Penn State will have the chance for an official visit on June 7, followed by Ohio State next week then Tennesseeand then USC.

“Marques Hagans hits me all the time and a lot of Penn State coaches beat me on a daily basis,” Bell told 247Sports. “Coach Hagans came to the school and had a meeting with me, my mom and stepdad and said they couldn’t wait for my official visit.”

USC is considered the favorite to keep the California receiver close to home based on crystal ball predictions at this stage. So Penn State may be fighting an uphill battle to land a commitment, but receiving an official visit is an indication that Penn State is still in the supposed race. The recruitment prediction machine On3 gives Penn State just a 9.3% chance to guarantee Bell’s commitment.

Texas It is UCLA They may also be late candidates to watch out for in the recruitment process.

Penn State’s Class of 2025 is currently ranked no. 7th in the country, according to the latest 247Sports composite rankings, and is not yet. 3 among the ten great schools behind Ohio State and USC.
