With Penn State looking to strengthen its 2025 recruiting class, there are many positions the coaching staff is pursuing ahead of its official calendar visit.
Since then Phil Trautwein took over as offensive line coach in 2020, the Nittany Lions began to accumulate high-level prospects in their classes, which completely changed the profile of this unit.
With the ultimate goal of Penn State competing for a national championship, being able to dominate in the trenches was much needed.
As the Big Ten prepares for its first expanded conference season in 2024, it is even more important that the Nittany Lions continue to recruit the offensive line at a high level.
They received some great news when it was revealed that they had made the top four of one of their key 2025 targets, Michael Carrol.
The other schools that made his final list are top programs Michigan, AlabamaIt is Georgia.
The 6-foot-4, 300-pounder is rated as a four-star recruit according to On3’s Industry Classifications which considers him the 183rd best player in the country. What’s interesting, though, is that On3 itself sees him as the 27th recruit in the 2025 class and the second-best player at his position.
As an instant recruit, it’s safe to say that Jaime Franklin desperately wants to get this one, especially considering the other three schools the Nittany Lions are competing against.
On3 Recruitment Prediction Machine gives Penn State the edge now with a 29.3% chance of getting Carroll. Michigan is second with a 20.0% chance, followed by Alabama at 12.3% and Georgia at 8.2%.
The four-star will make official visits to all four campuses, with his first coming May 31 to Georgia, before arriving at Alabama on June 7, Penn State on June 14 and finishing at Michigan on June 21.
This will be a big battle for the Nittany Lions and one that could indicate they are capable of competing against the top programs in the country for coveted recruits.
Trautwein has done a fantastic job recruiting during his tenure. Landing Carroll would solidify that.
