What an offseason it has been Texas A&M on the recruiting trail under first-year head coach Mike Elko. The Aggies 2025 recruiting class once again moved up the rankings after landing California’s second-highest ranked prospect, four-star cornerback Adonyss Currie.
Joining Five-Star Quarterback Commitment Husan Longstreet, the No. 1 player in California, Currie is just two spots below him at No. 3 in 247Sports’ updated recruiting rankings. Five-star cornerback Dijon Lee of Mission Viejo (CA) is ranked No. 2 in the state and recently included Texas A&M on his final list of four programs.
With the strong possibility of securing Lee’s commitment as early as this summer, the Aggies have dominated the California recruiting scene, and it’s not just Elko who deserves credit.
Throughout the beginning of the year, Texas A&M cornerback coaches Ishmael Aristide and Jordan Peterson, combined with Aggies defensive coordinator Jay Bateman, traveled up and down the Golden State, not least developing relationships with Currie and Lee , as four-star linebacker Noah Mikhail is defined. visit College Station on June 7th before announcing their intentions on June 30th.
During the 2023 season, the Aggies consistently dealt with a lack of talent and depth in the secondary, leading Elko to add seven defensive backs through the transfer portal. The addition of Currie is a good sign that under the defensive guidance of Elko and Bateman, Texas A&M’s future pass defense could be one of the best in the SEC.
